about

"December Ecco" marks a drastic departure from anything I've ever released. After a decade of working mostly in the realm of experimental folk and rock, a long-standing dream of mine has been to release a modest album of ambient, downtempo electronic music. As a longtime appreciator of the genre I've always felt a pull towards it, and after procrastinating long enough, I offer you the first taste of what is to come. A brief echo, if you will.

Nothing in this song was created with an acoustic instrument. There are only synthesizers, drum machines, and effects--this may change, but as a way to have a clear start on the project, I limited myself in this capacity to narrow my focus. Minimalism has been something I've practiced in my production for years, and it extends rather nicely into the ambient vein. That is the aim of the piece you're hearing now, and I hope you like it! It's inspired by brisk Canadian winters, 16-bit videogame soundtracks, and crowded public transit.

This isn't an end to my music as most of you know it, rather a side project for those who are interested to follow me there. I've wanted to make music like this for a few years now, but it was only recently that I made an effort to get organized and make a finished product for people to hear. Sometime in 2017 I'll have more ambient music to share, along with a few other surprises! As always thanks so much for listening and please, let me know what you think!!
